Overview

The Director guides and administers the TUC School of Nursing and serves on the leadership team for the College of Health Sciences (CHS). The Director provides leadership to develop and implement the School of Nursing (SON) and University policies and procedures for the preparation of professional nurses. The Director plans and implements instructional programs for professional nursing education; plans and administers the budgets of the SON; recommends appointment, retention, and promotion of SON faculty and staff, and represents the School of Nursing in University councils, community professional organizations, and ceremonial functions. The Director also guides all accreditation activities for the School of Nursing for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN),  Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PsychNP), and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Graduate Certificate programs and evaluates additional areas for possible growth and new programs. Grant writing is key to help secure funds for nursing research and community programs.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Creating and implementing an innovative strategic plan for the Department of Nursing.
  • Maintaining strong communication practices within the Department and throughout TUC to ensure the smooth functioning of all the department’s academic and administrative programs.
  • Preparing and submitting to the Dean budgetary proposals for the operations of the department to assure adequate resources for fulfilling its mission and goals.
  • Ensuring that the department’s community service responsibilities are met through the participation of the SON students, faculty and staff in service activities.
  • Overseeing and successfully completing the School of Nursing professional accreditation processes.
  • Establishing sound academic and administrative management procedures in order to ensure appropriate planning, implementation, and evaluation of all School of Nursing programs and activities.
  • Developing and implementing academic, research, and service policies for the School of Nursing and ensuring the SON compliance of all Touro University System (TUS) policies and procedures.
  • Supporting an internal governance structure through efficient and effective committees within the SON.
  1. Academic Planning
  • Developing, implementing, and assessing all academic, research, service, and assessment plans/programs to further the mission and goals of the SON, CHS, and TUC.
  • Establishing committees and groups as necessary to plan and carry out stated administrative policies and academic, research, and service goals.
  • Overseeing the implementation of course evaluations and analyze outcomes in collaboration with course faculty and the curriculum committee.
  • Aligning curriculum with national standards and maintaining up to date requirements.
  • Leading program evaluation and instill practices that lead to quality education outcomes for the School.

. 3. Enrollment Management

  • Working with the TUC admissions team and recruiters to grow enrollment, develop marketing materials, and implement advertising strategies for the department in conjunction with the Dean.
  • Collaborating with local and regional academic institutions to create a pipeline of new students to the School of Nursing.
  • Developing and implementing strong retention programs and activities with the faculty and staff to ensure high student retention rates.
  • Coordinating with the SON admissions committee to review and approve admissions requirements and provide high quality student recruitment experiences.
  1. Teaching and Scholarly Activity
  • Establishing and fostering a climate within the department that encourages and rewards excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, collaborative education, and service activities.
  • Teaches classes in the SON as needed.
  1. Faculty, Staff Appointment and Faculty Promotion
  • Appointing all SON faculty and staff and recommending all faculty promotions to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.
  • Implementing a long-term plan for professional career/development and professional advising within the college.
  • Serve as mentor for SON faculty, staff, and students.
  1. Alumni Affairs, Development, and Advancement
  • Developing and nurturing, along with the Office of Advancement, strong relationships with alumni, enhancing collaborative partnerships with industry, and increasing connections with external stakeholders
  1. Collaboration
  • Collaborating with TUC administrative units and other TUC colleges in providing student-centered care, programs, and services.
  1. Performance Evaluation
  • Evaluating the Department Chairs, faculty members and staff of the department’s academic and administrative components and ensuring that each carries out the responsibilities established for the position.
  1. University Committees
  • Serving as ex officiomember on all standing committees and ad-hoc committees related to academic, research, and service missions of the School of Nursing.
  • Representing the School of Nursing for the CHS Leadership Team.
  • Serving on other University committees as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable): should reflect who the employee is supervising and what the expectations are.

  • The Director guides and administers the TUC School of Nursing.
  • Recommends appointment, retention, and promotion of SON faculty and staff.
  • Works with the Dean of the College and with the staff of the SON to assure appropriate orientation of new faculty.
  • Ensures that all necessary planning, accounting, and allocation of resources are accomplished and that the SON requests to the University administration for resources are made on a timely basis, utilizing appropriate faculty consultation.
  • Assumes responsibility for the curriculum and quality of instruction in the SON, including curriculum planning, academic standards, scheduling, teaching loads, course offerings, clinical rotations, student advising, and assessment activities.
  • Encourages faculty in their roles as researchers, scholars, and members of both the professional community and the University.
  • Maintains an open chain of communication between the Dean of the College and the faculty of the SON.
  • Within the established system of governance, and in consultation with SON faculty, develops and approves policies and procedures for faculty recruitment; participates in evaluation of all School faculty and staff; counsels individual faculty when necessary; and assesses the feasibility and practicality of programmatic status quo and of potential changes.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION(S): is the Education, Training and/or related experience needed by the person to perform the job.

  • Earned doctorate required. Master’s or earned doctorate in nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing (candidate must be eligible for licensure in the State of California.)
  • At least one year experience in administration of a professional program in Nursing or an administrative internship in an NLN or CCNE accredited university program in nursing (preferred).
  • At least two years of experience in professional nursing education.
  • At least three years of experience in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and administration.
  • A professional philosophy that is compatible with that of Touro University California and the nursing program.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • NP background strongly preferred, with an active and unencumbered   license.

This position is eligible for rank and promotion assignment as outlined in University wide Rank and Promotion Guidelines.

Maximum Salary

USD $169,273.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $135,418.40/Yr.
