Overview

Touro University California (“TUC” or the “University”) is a private, professional, and graduate-degree awarding institution located in the greater San Francisco Bay Area city of Vallejo, California.  Established in 1997, TUC offers its 1,500 students an innovative education in one of several disciplines including osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, nursing, public health, and education. POSITION DESCRIPTION: This job description is not intended to cover every work assignment a position may have. Rather, they cover the broad responsibilities of the position.

 

As Wellness Coach/coordinator, this 20-hour per week position will be responsible for assessing the campus wellness climate and developing programs using current resources to assist individuals, groups, and the campus as a whole to be healthier.  This position is a part of a Grant funded Wellness Program which runs through 2026 under the supervision of the TUC Director of Student Success Services. The position will be working directly with the Joint MSPAS/MPH PA Program as well as other campus programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Office of Student Success Services to collect data, create, market, administer, promote, and evaluate in-person and written wellness programs for TUC students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Work with current and incoming students to integrate the Wellness, Academic, Achievement, Resilience, and Mindfulness (WARM) program to PA program.
  • Assist in WARM activities for other campus programs.
  • Work with the office of Environmental Health and Safety and other offices to manage and process and track all events and volunteers.
  • Develop a plan for improvement and expansion of the facilities for the health and benefit of the campus community. 
  • Provide support for monthly food distribution events.
  • Comply with and observe all health codes, departmental service standards, and to all health, safety, rules and regulations by the University, City, County, and State health agencies.
  • Attend and participate in organizational meetings as required.
  • Works with student participants, workers community agencies, and helpers in a professional manner.
  • Cooperate and communicate with other University staff and students to promote a positive campus climate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Knowledge of the administrative software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Google
  • Exceptional organizational and customer service skills

 

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school or vocational school graduate or equivalent. 
  • Good working knowledge and use of the English language
  • Six months to one-year minimum experience as a wellness, health or fitness coach or teacher.

REASONING COMPETENCY:

·    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

·    Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

·    Ability to exhibit maturity, good judgment, and flexibility

 

LANGUAGE COMPETENCY:

·     Ability to read & interpret documents such as email correspondences, safety rules, and procedure manuals.

·     Ability to relate, speak, and cooperate effectively before groups of customers, students, clients or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL COMPETENCY:

·       Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

·       Basic knowledge of inventory, creating spreadsheets, and record keeping principles

 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

·       1 year experience of wellness coaching and or teaching.

·       Ability to assess strengths, barriers and coping skills around wellness.

·       Able to articulate a sustainable wellness vision.

·       Able to apply coaching skills such as curious inquiry, empathy, reflective listening, and goal setting.

·       Ability to exhibit and maintain a high standard of professional knowledge, appearance, behavior, and attitude.

·       Must work safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and campus faculty, staff, and students.

·       Promptly reports personal injury to Supervisor and seeks first aid as required.

 

OTHER TRAINING OR CERTIFICATION:

·       Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Psychology, Social Work or related field (Preferred but not required)

·       Valid National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching certification. (Preferred, but not required)

·       California Food Handler Card (Required within 60 days of service)

·       First Aid Certificate must be acquired during the employee’s probationary period

Maximum Salary

USD $31,200.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $24,960.00/Yr.
