Overview

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for clerical and technical tasks specializing in areas of financial aid.  Responding to students who walk-in, phone and email with general financial aid questions.  Assists in processing, recording, updating and reconciling applications for student financial aid.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the daily functions of the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Provide responsive, friendly, quality financial aid advising/counseling to prospective and current students, with all aspects of financial aid and TUC processes.
  • Maintains various computer and manual records and files ensuring compliance with documentation for future reference.
  • Manages programs and/or program components for the purpose of delivering services that conform to established guidelines.
  • Gather student financial aid applications to determine financial aid eligibility, which includes performing federal verification and an ability to work within various financial aid systems (e.g., COD, NSLDS, CPS, and Banner) to resolve issues.
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate action for invalid or incomplete student financial aid applications and bring to the attention of the assistant director or director of financial aid.
  • Responds to inquiries of staff, outside agencies, and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  • Participates in various meeting for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one’s skill/knowledge.
  • Maintains College Work-Study contracts, timesheets, and forwarding timesheets for payroll.
  • Reconciliation of Federal Work Study on an ongoing basis.
  • Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility of this job.
  • Attend and assist at financial aid workshops and present at perspective student interviews.
  • Participate in student events and major ceremonies such as, but not limited to, orientation, white coat ceremony, commencement, which may fall outside of scheduled work hours.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable): should reflect who the employee is supervising and what the expectations are.

Supervision of one or more college Work-Study student (s) assigned to our office.

 

Qualifications

  • A degree or tech certificate or job-related experience required.

  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions. 
  • Ability to ready and interpret documents, manuals, diagrams schedules and forms. 
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. 
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions to new and continuing students.

 

Maximum Salary

USD $52,530.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $42,024.00/Yr.
