Overview

A faculty member in Foundational Biomedical Sciences (FBS) a tripartite responsibility: Teaching for both the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine (TU-COM) Masters of Science and Health Science (MSMHS) and COM programs, research and service (specifics described below). The specific tasks and workload are assigned by the chair. Faculty members assume the responsibility of developing, recommending, and executing all approved policies of instruction. The faculty shall consist of individuals who have been appointed to the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. 

Responsibilities

A faculty member in FB sciences is responsible for the delivery of a portion of the curriculum suitable to their training and experience. They are expected to contribute new knowledge to an academic field of endeavor, whether through bench or clinical research or scholarly writings. They are expected to assist the University in meeting academic or related committee responsibilities. All these duties require that the faculty member remain current in their academic field through participation in professional development activities.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: are those work assignments which are predominant, regular and recurring.

  • Participate in the planning of the curriculum
  • Prepare and deliver lectures or laboratory lessons on assigned topics
  • Assess student performance through appropriate examination methods
  • Facilitate student learning through provision of office hours
  • Promote an appropriate atmosphere for student education and be responsive to student needs
  • Serve on university committees; assume a fair share of assignments in chairing committees
  • Design and execute original scholarly/research studies in an ethical manner
  • Seek research funding through grants, contracts, or other award
  • Present research findings at scientific meetings or other relevant forums
  • Provide reports, budgetary information, and other documents, as requested by Department Chairs, Directors, and Deans
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Participate in medical student admission interviews

 

 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D., D.O., M.D., or comparable degree with a concentration in one of the foundational medical sciences.

Maximum Salary

USD $110,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $95,000.00/Yr.
